REACH Legislation

The principal concern this year is meeting the requirements for pre-registration of chemicals.  Under this stage, which ends on 1 December 2008, chemical manufacturers and importers have to notify their intention to register a substance to the EU Chemicals Agency.  There are various deadlines for actual registration thereafter, depending on the tonnages supplied.  If a substance is not pre-registered, then there is a risk that the supplier will not continue to supply it into the longer term.

Clearly it is in the interests of all manufacturers using chemicals to ensure that their suppliers are still supplying the material at issue.  Some suppliers are well into the process; others are lagging behind.  It is essential that every member gets in touch with its suppliers to ensure that they are taking the necessary action to pre-register, providing such information as may be necessary.  A tool for helping you do this is available to Ordinary Members from the BRPPA Office.

BRPPA is proposing to run a workshop later on in the year to update members on pre-registration issues.

BRPPA Full Members will have access to all information on REACH in the Members only area.  This area will also have regular updated information posted.
